In recent years, there have been many reports of early failure of metal-on-metal hip replacement joints. Many of these devices have worn down prematurely, resulting in the release of metallic particles into adjoining tissues. This has led to infections, pain and the need for surgeries to replace the devices.

At Miller & Wagner, our attorneys investigate and present damage claims for defective hip replacement joints. We seek full compensation from all parties responsible for your injuries, including the surgical team and the company manufacturing the device. Even if you signed a form accepting the risks of surgery, call us for a free initial consultation to discuss your case. With offices in Pacific City and Portland, our lawyers represent plaintiffs injured by medical negligence throughout Oregon and southwestern Washington.

Problems With Metal-on-Metal Hip Replacement Joints

Several companies make titanium hip replacement joints to replace worn natural hip joints. Concerns about the metal-on-metal design arose a few years following their introduction, as these devices began to fail at a higher rate than other types of hip joint replacement devices. One of these devices, the DePuy hip replacement, was recalled in 2010 after one in eight patients receiving the joint needed replacement surgery within five years.

In February of 2011, the Food and Drug Administration issued a patient advisory on metal-on-metal hip implants. This followed a study from the National Joint Registry of England and Wales calling for a ban on these devices.

If you have suffered hip problems following insertion of a metal-on-metal hip replacement device, call our attorneys for straight answers about your legal options.
