Cerebral hypoxia is a condition in which there is a decrease of oxygen supply to the brain. Diagnosing cerebral hypoxia quickly is essential, as the longer the brain is deprived of oxygen, the more likely the patient will suffer severe and lasting impairment.

If your loved one suffered brain damage because his or her doctor or hospital staff failed to recognize the symptoms of cerebral hypoxia soon enough to provide emergency treatment, talk to a lawyer at Miller & Wagner, LLP. We are recognized as one of Oregon's pre-eminent medical negligence law firms. With offices in Eugene and Portland, we represent plaintiffs injured by medical negligence throughout Oregon and southwestern Washington.

Causes of Cerebral Hypoxia

In a medical setting, cerebral hypoxia may be caused by a number of factors:

  • Choking
  • Failure to maintain an open airway under anesthesia
  • Failure to monitor breathing under anesthesia
  • Diseases that result in paralysis of the breathing muscles, such as ALS
  • Cardiac arrest or arrhythmia
  • Stroke
  • Extreme low blood pressure
  • Drug overdose
  • Stress to a newborn before, during or soon after childbirth

Mild and moderate cerebral hypoxia from reduced levels of oxygen to the brain may not lead to lasting impairment. However, severe hypoxia can lead to permanent brain damage. In a newborn, it can lead to cerebral palsy.

Our lawyers offer a free consultation to evaluate your case. If you retain us to represent you, you will not pay attorney fees until and unless we help recover money damages for you.

Knowledge of Medical Negligence Law: Attorney Dave Miller has extensive previous experience as a defense attorney representing medical insurance companies in litigation matters involving cerebral hypoxia and other forms of medical negligence.
